From Chicago are the
Henhouse Prowlers. Chicago. A city known for its
blues…and its bluegrass. In the bluegrass history books, a pivotal stop, among
others, along the road to success for the Monroe Brothers and, in more current
times, noteworthy as home base for the long popular Special Consensus. And now,
the Windy City serves as a critical intersection in the lives of five musicians, two
who hail from Illinois and the others from as far and near as North Carolina, upstate
New York and Missouri. With a PBS series soundtrack already to its credit and a
sophomore recording in the works, The Henhouse Prowlers have been barnstorming
on to the red hot bluegrass scene since 2004. A couple of personnel shifts later, in
2007 the roughly thirty-something quintet made the commitment to go the distance,
to be a full-time touring bluegrass band. But not just another bluegrass band. The
Henhouse Prowlers are adeptly positioning themselves for nothing less than success.
Each member does double duty within the group, holding a business as well as
musical post, making it a total collaborative effort. Dedicated equally to tradition and
innovation, The Henhouse Prowlers center their sound on that of the early,
formative years of bluegrass, while they keep their pulse on today by covering
contemporary topics in a largely original repertoire. The Henhouse Prowlers wear
the Bill Monroe mantle with spit and polish. They perform -- and conduct media
interviews -- in suit-and-tie and work in a tightly choreographed, one-mic stage
setting, which adds a dynamic dimension to their shows. Combining passion,
confidence and flair with instrumental and vocal prowess, The Prowlers deliver
bluegrass with an edge.

From Milwaukee is the
Liberty Bluegrass Band. Formed in early 2006 to provide an
outlet to four bluegrass fanatics to express our love for this music. After a breakout
year in 2008 with the release of the debut album the band is ready to take on new
levels. The band recently won the 2009 WAMI (WI Area Music Industry) Bluegrass
Band of the Year Award and in late 2008 the band won the prestigious WAMI CD
Roulette taking home the grand prize winning a prime time headlining slot at the
2009 WI State Fair. 2008 brought the band to Milwaukee's 105th Harley Davidson
Anniversary Main Street Stage which was the only bluegrass band during the 5-day
event. 2009 highlights include bringing our music to NYC, Baraboo's 700-seat AL
Ringling Theatre and Chicago's 4000-seat Congress Theatre. In 2009 we'll also be
releasing our second studio album featuring some great vocal numbers and originals
with our unique Liberty sound.

From the Minneapolis area is the
High 48s. Since forming in 2006, The High 48s
have grabbed the attention of festival audiences in the Upper Midwest and beyond,
toured steadily, released two critically acclaimed CDs and won first place in the
2008 RockyGrass Band Competition in Lyons, Colorado.
The High 48s play bluegrass in the traditional style, with close three-part harmonies
sung around a single microphone. But unlike many traditional bluegrass bands
working the festival circuit today, the High 48s don’t draw their material exclusively
from the hallowed back catalogs of bluegrass’s “first generation,” artists such as Bill
Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, and Jimmy Martin. The High 48s focus instead on
writing original material that combines the soul and drive of first-generation bluegrass
with the harder-edged sound of alternative country and roots rock. It’s a style of
music the band calls Hard Grass.
